Pagoclone belongs to the class of tranquilizers known as nonbenzodiazepines, which have quite different molecular structures but comparable effects to the more common benzodiazepines. It has a comparable high affinity (0.7-9.1 nM) for the benzodiazepine binding site of human GABAA receptors with the 1, 2, 3, or 5 subunit.
